SHILLONG: An unlucky Royal Wahingdoh FC went down 0-1 to Shillong United in a Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium in Shillong on Tuesday.

The Royals created several chances in either half but failed to capitalise on them. In the end, a second half goal (48 min) by Eijingmut Lyngdoh proved to be the difference between the two sides as Shillong United registered their first win of the season.

Earlier, RWFC started on an aggressive note with Nagen Tamang threatening to get his side the lead within five minutes of play. But his firm header of a Milancy Khongstia cross hit the crossbar. The Royals continued on a dominating note but failed to convert. The three-time SPL champions missed another chance when, towards the fag end of the first half, a Nabachandra Singh right footer from a dangerous position from the far right failed to get near the nets.

Crossing over Shillong United upped the ante and three minutes into the second half Eigingmut found the back of the nets after he got hold of a rebound from RWFC custodian Bishorjit Singh inside the box. Seconds ago Bishorjit had punched the ball brilliantly to deny a close range shot. But his effort was rendered useless.

The Royals, however, looked set to turn the tide post the 70th minute. A great run by Milancy Khongstia (75 min) from the right saw a brilliant cross delivered at goalmouth but there was none to convert of it. A minute later a Frankie Buam long range shot missed the nets by a whisker.

Thereafter the equaliser eluded the Royals till the end as Shillong United notched up their first win.

Royals Wahingdoh had started its SPL campaign with a win over Nangkiew Irat.
