NEW DELHI: Sporting Clube de Goa begin their campaign in the U-19 I-League on Friday, December 19, where they take on Sesa Academy at the Duler Stadium.

From the Maharashtra Zone, Kenkre SC start their campaign against Mumbai FC on December 18, at the Cooperage Ground.

THE TEAM PROFILES:

SPORTING CLUBE DE GOA

Training Routine: The players have been training four times a week since October, with a regime carefully constructed by the Coaches. Some players got valuable experience in the Goa Pro League.

Practice Venue: The team train at the Don Bosco ground, in Panjim where the SCG Academy is based. During the Monsoons the Duler Stadium in Mapusa was also utilized as it has an All-weather artificial turf.

Practice games played: The team played a number of friendly matches, against Goan clubs and also were tested against the Sporting Clube de Goa senior team.

Home match Venue: The Don Bosco ground in Panjim is used for the home matches of the U-19 Sporting Clube de Goa team. The turf was renovated last year by the club, which enhances the quality of football not only for the home team but also the visiting side, which is a win-win for Indian Football.

Quote from Mahesh Lotlikar (Head of Youth Development): “The U-19 I-League tournament is used as a nice spring board for our players to get acquainted to high-level football against some of the best teams in the Country.

“Results are important, although our club is also looking at the performance of our players and assess whether they can step up and make a mark.”

Previous U-19 I-League Record: Sporting Clube de Goa stood third from the Goa Zone in the U-19 I-League last season.

KENKRE SC:

Training Routine: Monday: technical / tactical work, small sided games, 11 v 11 scrimmage

Tuesday:  Practice match

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: Physical workout, small sided games, 11 v 11 scrimmage

Friday: technical / tactical work, small sided games, build up lpay leading to crosses from flanks, set pieces workout

Saturday: Practice match

Sunday : Rest

Training Venue – Goans Sports Ground, Churchgate, Mumbai

Previous practice games played – Elite Division teams, Mumbai University teams, team plays in the Senior Division of the Mumbai League played 3 matches till date have won 2 and drawn 1

Quote from Oscar Alva (Head Coach) – Kenkre will be participating for the 2nd successive season in the under 19 I-League this year, and the squad is well balanced and 80% of the players have played in the previous edition.

“The team target is to eventually qualify for the main phase but at the same time a better performance in terms of player growth and team targets from the previous participation is well expected.”
