KALYANI: Sreenidi Deccan FC are back to winning ways in the 2023-24 I-League with an emphatic 5-0 victory against TRAU FC in their away match at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Jagdeep Singh hit a brace while Gurmukh Singh, Lalromawia and David Castanada Munoz all got their names on the scoresheet.
The win helped Sreenidi Deccan climb to the second spot in the points table with 10 points from five matches. Gokulam Kerala FC too have 10 points, but Sreenidi are ahead on goal difference. The Hyderabad side are a point behind Mohammedan Sporting with three wins, one draw and one loss. TRAU are languishing at the bottom of the table with a point from five matches.
Sreenidi Deccan began their I-League campaign with two wins before suffering a loss against Aizawl FC and settling for a draw against Shillong Lajong. However, the Deccan Warriors started the match against TRAU as favourites and lived up to the expectations by dominating the proceedings from the outset.
Sreenidi Deccan’s persistent efforts paid off in the 41st minute when Gurmukh broke the deadlock. Faysal Shayesteh delivered a corner kick, but initially, no Sreenidi Deccan player could connect with the ball, leading to a clearance. The ball, however, fell to another Sreenidi Deccan player outside the box, who cleverly redirected it into the fray. Gurmukh seized this opportunity, skilfully controlling the ball and precisely targeting the bottom left corner of the goal, earning Sreenidi Deccan a well-deserved lead.
Sreenidi Deccan came back with more hunger for goals in the second half and extended their lead in the 48th minute. Rosenberg Gabriel played a through ball from the midfield to release Jagdeep Singh on the left. The left-back sent in a powerful low cross which TRAU goalkeeper Mohammed Rafique Ali Sardar should have easily collected. However, the custodian fumbled, resulting in him inadvertently knocking the ball into his own net.
Jagdeep completed his brace nine minutes later with a beautiful goal. He took control of a lofted pass from the defence with a fantastic first touch with his right foot and then unleashed a beautiful left footer to find the back of the net.
Sreenidi Deccan were gifted their fourth goal by TRAU goalkeeper Sardar in the 66th minute. TRAU defenders were caught in possession before their goalkeeper tried to play a pass to Khumanthem Arun Singh. But the pass was so weak that Lalromawia intercepted the ball before it could reach Arun Singh. The midfielder didn’t waste the opportunity as he kept his nerve and slotted it past the hapless goalkeeper.
But Sreenidi Deccan weren’t done yet. They scored their fifth in the dying minutes of the match. Munoz was released with a through ball from the deep and he beat the TRAU defenders with his pace before burying his strike to pile on TRAU’s misery.
