GOA: SETHU FC ended their 2023-24 Indian Women’s League (IWL) campaign on a high as they notched up a comprehensive 3-1 win over HOPS FC at the Tilak Maidan on Friday, March 22, 2024.

For SETHU, Kaviya Pakkirisamy, Karen Estrocio and Lisham Babina Devi were the scorers after Neha had given HOPS an early lead.

The win helped SETHU FC finish at the fourth spot in the seven-team IWL standings with 17 points from 12 matches. They have five wins, two draws and suffered five defeats. HOPS fC ended the IWL on the fifth spot with 16 points from 12 games. They won five games, drew one and lost six matches.

It was HOPS FC who took the lead in the 20th minute. Pooja made a brilliant run on the right flank and delivered an inch-perfect ball into the penalty box for an unmarked Neha, who easily slotted the ball home.

However, SETHU FC responded in style. In the 30th minute, Phanjouram Nirmala Devi sent a long ball into the box and Kaviya made a good run and connected sweetly to score the equaliser.

Kaviya was once again involved in the build-up play to SETHU’s second goal in the match in the 60th minute. She floated in a corner from the left and Karen Estrocio leapt above HOPS FC defenders to score with a header.

SETHU FC extended their lead in the 68th minute with a peach of a strike from Lisham Babina Devi. After receiving a ball 25 yards from HOPS FC goal, Babina hit a looping long-ranger with such precision that the ball dipped at the right moment to evade the outstretched hands of HOPS FC goalkeeper Anshika and found the back of the net.
