GOA: Salgaocar FC juniors dished out a stellar display to pulverise Young Strikers 11-0 in a Round 5 clash of the GFA U-14 league. The star of the day was once again Kenneth Da Costa who now has 4 hat-tricks to his credit in just 5 games. Movin Gounkar and Samson Castanha helped themselves to a fine brace respectively whilst Antush Moniz, Jobern Cardozo, and substitutes Melroy Borges and Kevin D’Costa helped themselves to a goal each. The winners led 3-0 at the breather and by virtue of this win have now scored 45 goals in 5 games and are yet to concede.
After missing a few early chances, the Greens finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Kenneth Da Costa displayed some exquisite close ball control to beat 3 defenders and hammer home. Salgaocar then had to wait until just before half time when in the 34th minute a quick counter saw Kyle D’Cruz play the ball to Meldon Oliveira on the left who in turn played the ball for Jobern Cardozo who played a fine ball for Kenneth. The last named burst into the box and very unselfishly squared for Samson Castanha to tap home. In the very next minute it was the turn of Antush Moniz to weave his magic around the centre line before releasing Kenneth who entered the box and smartly cut inside his man before letting fly an absolute screamer.
Upon resumption a long ball was played for Antush who cut his man and whilst the Young Strikers keeper did well to save the first attempt, Antush calmly slotted home the rebound. The floodgates had well and truly opened by then. In the 39th minute Salgaocar were 5 to the good as Antush played a ball to Kenneth in the box who cushioned the ball for Jobern to drill home into the bottom corner. Movin then got into the act as he headed home powerfully off a cross from Kevin D’Costa.
Kevin then found the back of the net himself on the score sheet with 26 minutes still remaining on the clock as he knocked home the rebound after Antush’s fierce attempt from the edge of the box was well saved by the keeper. Samson Castanha then returned the earlier favour as he sped down the right and crossed for Kenneth to tap home for Salgaocar’s 8th of the evening.
It was nine with 9 minutes left on the clock as Antush once again showed great vision and foresight to pick out Melroy Borges. The keeper once again did well to get down low to save the first attempt but Melroy was at hand to tap home the rebound. Kenneth then found Samson inside the box for his second of the evening and his team’s tenth. The final goal of the evening came courtesy Movin who smashed home after Antush’s initial attempt was blocked by the defense.
