GOA: Salgaocar FC juniors continued their rich vein of form making it three wins from three when they beat A.A. de Majorda 4-0 in a GFA U-14 league match played at the T B Cunha sports complex in Cansaulim. The winners scored through Kyle D’Cruz (34’), Antush Moniz (37’ & 55’), & Kenneth Da Costa (68’).

Salgaocar’s hero from the first two games, Kenneth Da Costa could have given his side the lead as early as the 2nd minute but he headed wide a fine corner by Frazer Edmag. At the other end, Seldon Pereira’s long free-kick from the half-line found Delson Rebello in the box but the latter was unable to trouble Merritone Fernandes under the Salgaocar bar.

In the 11th minute Zidane Fernandes found himself in space down the right. He utilized the space offered to him and had a crack from just outside the box, his shot coming off a defender and almost sneaking into the near post, the keeper eventually collecting the ball off the upright. In the 24th minute the Greens had yet another opportunity to open their account as Antush Moniz received a pass from Melroy Borges, turned his marker and advance deep into opponent territory before sending in a fine cross that found Joywin D’Costa, the last named shooting over on the turn. It was then the turn of Sanford Colaco to shoot for A.A. de Majorda after mking a good run through the centre.

Just as it appeared that both sides would be heading into the breather on even terms, Salgaocar FC skipper and stopper back Kyle D’Cruz gave his side the much sought after lead. A long free-kick by substitute Rohit Naik from around the centre circle saw Kenneth bring the ball nicely under control on the edge of the box and pass to Kyle, who let fly on the turn, the keeper unable to stop the power packed shot and allowing it to spill into the net.

The Greens doubled their advantage soon after resumption as the lads from Majorda were made to pay for failing to clear their lines as midfield livewire Antush Moniz smashed home from the top of the box after a clearance got only as far as him. 5 minutes later Majorda keeper Gleson Fernandes was quick to come off his line to thwart Kenneth after the latter had been played through by Mouvin Gauncar. Around the 49th minute Amber Rodrigues should have done better with his header as Antush found him with a delightful cross from the right.

In the 54th minute, Mouvin’s rasping drive from inside the box was parried away by the Majorda custodian and to his good fortune the ball came off against the upright and rebounded into play before being cleared. In the very next however Salgaocar did have their third of the evening. Gleson under the Majorda bar failing to deal with a long flighted cross by Mouvin and Antush at hand to tap home for his second of the evening.

Substitute Rohit Naik had a near flawless second half as he was assured in defense and played some delightful balls upfront for his forwards. With 7 minutes to play Antush fed Mauvin with a great through ball and as the keeper came off his line, he and the Salgaocar lanky defender collided resulting in an injury to the Majorda keeper Gleson. However, he had done his bit to ensure Mauvin shot wide on that occasion. With a couple of minutes left on the clock, Antush displayed sublime close ball control and got through a host of players around the centre line before playing Kenneth Da Costa through, the last named slotting calmly past substitute keeper Makvino Colaco.
