SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC put up a brilliant show in the second half to beat Laitumkhrah SCC 2-0 in a Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium in Shillong on Saturday.
Nabachandra Singh scored a brace for the Royals (59th and 80th) even as Bekay Bawar did exceptionally well to create openings and feed the ball to his teammates upfront.
After the first half failed to yield any goals, RWFC came out all guns blazing in the second pushing the rivals on the back foot. The RWFC players looked more agile and Bekay Bawar was especially impressive with his nimble footed and controlled approach. Sushil Meitei almost made it 1-0 for the Royals moments after the 50th minute but his lofted shot from the edge of the box went just over the woodwork. A few minutes later a Nabachandra shot rolled into the nets after the rival custodian made a mess of it to hand over the lead to RWFC. There is little doubt but that the pressure created by the Royals in the second half had led to the fumble on the part of the Laitumkhrah goalie.
RWFC maintained the pressure post the goal and could have doubled the lead in the 75th minute when an unmarked Loken Meitei was spotted at the edge of the opposition half by Rheadolf Nongneng. With only the goalie to negotiate with, Loken made a good run but was unable to control the ball and eventually squandered possession.
However, five minutes later Nabachandra struck again to virtually take the game away from the opponents. He was fed by Loken in the front and slammed the ball into the nest from inside the box.
