SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC were unable to continue the momentum from the last match as they went down fighting to Rangdajied United FC in a Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium in Shillong on Wednesday.

A lone second half goal by Joel Sunday proved to be the difference between the two sides in a well contested tie. Joel took advantage of a defensive lapse to convert from close range.

Earlier, the game started on an even note with both sides unable to take the lead in the first half. However, eight minutes into the second half Joel directed one towards the nets with none posted there to check the shot following a defensive lapse on the part of the hosts.

RWFC should have equalised barely two minutes later but a scorcher of a shot from Nagen Tamang was brilliantly saved by the rival custodian.

Nagen could have made a change in the scoreboard in the 84th minute when he breezed in unmarked from the right only to mispass a promising ball to the rival custodian.

Meanwhile, Bishorjit Singh was brilliant throughout for the Royals making over a couple of outstanding saves.

Thereafter, Rangdajied held on to the lead to pocket three points from the tie.

Royals will next take on Nangkiew Irat on October 7 in the first match of the second leg of the tournament.
