Kolkata, Monday, January 7, 2019: After former Head Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty stepped down, post a wayward start to the 12th Hero I-League season, Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan have decided to appoint Khalid Jamil as the new gaffer.

The Green and Maroons, who had raised the expectations of the fans by winning the Calcutta Football League last year, failed to capture that form in the I-League, only managing four wins from the 11 matches they have played so far; only one of these wins have come in front of their home fans at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Stadium in Kolkata.

Following their 1-2 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Real Kashmir on Sunday at their home venue, Sankarlal decided to part ways with Mohun Bagan, who have now declared Jamil as their new Head Coach.

“I am delighted to join Mohun Bagan. It is one of the biggest clubs in India, and I will try my best to get the best results for the remainder of the season,” Jamil said to I-League.org. “It’s a talented squad with hard-working players, and I’m sure we can do good things moving ahead.”

Jamil has had vast experience in the I-League, having coached Mumbai FC for six seasons, before making the move to Aizawl FC, where his side became the surprise champions in the 2016-17 season. Jamil then went on to coach Mohun Bagan’s arch-rivals East Bengal last season, before taking over from Sankarlal in the ongoing campaign.
