NEW DELHI: Mohammedan Sporting will be aiming to consolidate their lead at the top of the I-League table when they face Churchill Brothers at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium in West Bengal on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Mohammedan Sporting have 41 points from 18 matches with 12 wins, five draws, and one loss and are five points ahead of the second-placed Sreenidi Deccan.
Mohammedan Sporting endured a rough patch of form when the I-League resumed last month after a month-long break. However, they picked up pace when it mattered the most. They will be coming into the match on the back of two wins and will be aiming to continue the momentum on Tuesday.
One of the pivotal players for Mohammedan Sporting this season has been Eddie Hernandez. The forward has been instrumental in scoring goals in crucial matches and the Black Panthers will bank on his skills yet again on Tuesday. Other players who have also impressed are Zodingliana Ralte and David Castenada Munoz.
However, Mohammedan Sporting cannot be complacent. Churchill Brothers might be seventh in the table with 23 points from 18 matches, but they are on an unbeaten streak of three matches. They will be motivated to prove a point.
Another team that will be inspired is Sreenidi Deccan, who returned to winning ways in the last match against Delhi FC. The Deccan Warriors are five points adrift of Mohammedan Sporting and have 36 points from 18 matches with 11 wins, three draws, and four losses. They will want to reduce the gap with Mohammedan Sporting with a win against Gokulam Kerala FC on March 17, 2024.
Gokulam Kerala, along with Real Kashmir FC, are also vying for the title along with Mohammedan Sporting and Sreenidi Deccan. Both sides will be desperate to win their remaining matches and take the battle for the crown down to the wire. In this round, Gokulam Kerala will face the ninth-placed Aizawl FC on March 14, 2024, while Real Kashmir will take on the challenge against Shillong Lajong, who occupy the sixth spot, the previous day.
The other matches will involve mid-table teams. Rajasthan FC have drawn four consecutive matches and will be aiming for a win when they take on NEROCA FC on March 11, 2024. They are in the 10th spot while NEROCA are in the 12th position and fighting to beat the drop. The last match NEROCA had won was back in November and they will be desperate to bag some points.
TRAU FC find themselves in a similar position too. They are at the bottom of the 13-team table with seven points from 16 matches and are in the relegation zone. They will be aiming to climb up the table with a win over Namdhari FC on March 12, 2024, who are 11th in the table.
In another match, Delhi FC, who occupy the eighth spot, will be aiming to bounce back from three consecutive defeats when they face Inter Kashi, who are fifth in the table.
