MUMBAI: The inaugural season of Mumbai FC Masters League, presented by MDFA came to an end which saw more than 1746 kids from 40 schools & 30 academies participated in the month-long football extravaganza.

The main aim of the tournament was to scout & nurture the young talents by imparting scientific and age-specific football training. But the ultimate goal of the Masters League was to hone the prodigies who might don the national colour in future.

The tournament, which was contested amongst four different age categories, was played at three different venues: Andheri Sports Complex, Andheri (West), St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel & Kick Football Turf, Powai.

The zonal champions and runner-up teams locked their horns in the state and eventually the final decided the winner in each age category.

St. Paul High School, Parel triumphed the U-8 boys group while Don Bosco, Matunga swept the U-10 & U-12 category. Palkaya FC rose above others in the U-14 category and the girls from Christ Academy went back with the silverware in the U-14 girls tournament.

Mr. Aditya Thakrey, Chairman, MDFA was present during the prize distribution ceremony and he encouraged the prodigies to hone their skill. Mr. Digambar Kanderkar, President, MDFA and Mr. Shetty, Executive Committee Member, MDFA were also present on the final day. Mr. Vijay D Patil, President, Dr D Y Patil Stadium took some time out from his busy schedule to be present and three eminent players from Mumbai FC, Minchol Son, Taisuke Matsugae and the local hero Ashutosh Mehta cheered for the youngsters on the final day.

The winners will get a life-time opportunity to attend a training session under the Mumbai FC coaches and season tickets for the remaining Mumbai FC home games in the Hero I-league.
