NEW DELHI: Irrespective of the result on Wednesday, the Blues will finish second behind Johor Darul Ta’zim as both teams have made the knock-out stages and assistant coach Matthew Holland, who will be at the touchline following head coach Ashley Westwood’s suspension in the game against Lao Toyota, said the Hero I-League champions would be looking to give a good account of themselves against what is more than just a very good team.
“What’s always important to us is the performance on the day and what’s more important is the fact that we’ve qualified already. But we will definitely look to come and give a very good account of ourselves. We have to be appreciative of the fact that JDT are not just a very, very good team in Malaysia, they are the best. They are backed well and have a lot of support. Hopefully, we can do well and get what we deserve on the day,” said Holland.
The game kicks off at 6.15 pm IST and it’ll be telecast live on Star Sports 4.
Mohun Bagan, who are on a red hot form following their belting win over Shillong Lajong FC in the ongoing Hero Federation Cup, have already cemented the pinnacle spot from Group G. Meanwhile, they’ll face Tampines Rovers once again in the Round of 16 in Guwahati on 24th May 2016. Before that, they have to give a last shot in the round robin stage against South China tomorrow.
The Mariners had a pulsating 4-0 win over the Hong Kong outfit in the second matchday, courtesy a goal apiece by Lenny Rodrigues, Sony Norde, Cornell Glen and Jeje Lalpekhlua. Tomorrow’s result might not matter a lot for the Mariners but the result would have a say on the second qualifying team from the group.
The game is slated to kick off at 6:30 pm IST and it’ll be broadcast live on Star Sports 2.
