SHILLONG: A Loken Meitei own goal handed Rangdajied United a 1-0 victory over Royal Wahingdoh FC in the team’s last league match of the Shillong Premier League played at the JN Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Meitei inadvertently struck the ball into the RWFC nets while trying to clear it after a diving custodian Bishorjit Singh could only get a finger tip to the ball.

The 79th minute own goal proved to be decisive for the two sides both of which were reduced to ten men each after Bekay Bawar and Alex Silva were shown Red cards for an on field tussle in the 56th minute.

The Royals had their share of chances at regular intervals but failed to capitalize on any of them with the ball missing the target not by much on at least two occasions.

RWFC looked more dominant to start with and almost had the breakthrough in the 13th minute when a Nabachandra Singh header from close range missed the top of the woodwork narrowly.

Nabachandra was in the thick of action again in the 24th minute when he failed to head on target a fine lofted ball from Sushil Meitei from the left.

Crossing over Samananda Singh created a brilliant opening in the 59th minute when he crossed the ball at goal mouth after negotiating two defenders on the right. Unfortunately there was none to tap it in.

Later the Royals were lucky to get away in the 68th minute when one of the RUFC players hit the crossbar. In a counter attack, Loken breezed forward and fed the ball to Nabachandra a minute later. However, Nabachandra’s shot from the right did not have enough in it to beat the rival custodian.

Exactly ten minutes later an own goal by Loken took the game away from the Royals.
