KOLKATA: Kingfisher East Bengal thwacked arch rival Mohun Bagan by a whipping 4-0 margin to seal their successive sixth Calcutta Football League title. Records were created in plenty as Kingfisher East Bengal triumphed the Calcutta Football League for 37th time, maximum by any team till date.

The current troop emulated the yesteryear heroes who won six back to back titles from 1970-75. Not only that, the victory margin matched their feat 79 years ago when they defeated the Mariners by the same margin, courtesy a fine brace from Lakshminarayan and apiece from Murgesh and J.Prasad. To rub salt in the mariners’ wound, it was East Bengal’s 50th win in the mouth-watering derby clashes in the CFL.

East Bengal opened the scoring just two minutes into the match when Man of the Match Dong Hyun Do crashed home from a 25 yards free kick. Bagan retaliated promptly but Luis Barreto staged a smart save to deny Judelin Aveska. The lead was doubled by Dong Hyun Do himself as he smacked a similar free kick in the 36th minute. East Bengal crossed over with a cushion of two goals advantage and soon their rivals were reduced to 10 men when Dudu Omagbemi was given the marching order by referee Ranjit Bakshi following his second booking.

East Bengal were not in mood of pulling the plug and continued their vicious attack. Mohammed Rafique nodded in the 3rd goal of a tethering cross from Bikas Jairu eight minutes from the whistle. Rahul Bheke completed the rout with a neat header of a Saumik Dey corner in the dying minutes.

Dudu Omagbemi and Lalkamal Bhowmick (Mohun Bagan) were sent off and Sanjay Balmuchu (Mohun Bagan) and Robert Lalthalmuana (East Bengal) were cautioned in the first Kolkata derby of the season.
