GOA: It’s a Super Sunday at Duler Stadium Mapusa as Sporting take on Vasco SC in a crucial Round 9 fixture. Sporting is currently gunning for top of the table spot and the clash against Vasco becomes very important as they entertain the current league leaders Churchill Bros in the next game week. The Flaming Oranje unit are undefeated in their last 5 fixtures and would be looking to extend their fine run in this round.

Sporting Coach Mathew said that he expects a full throttle match against Vasco SC. Sitting just behind the league leaders with a 4 point gap at mid way of the season, would be a solid foundation for launching the title challenge. He said “We are looking forward to the game against Vasco and as I have mentioned in the previous interviews we are keen on maintaining the winning momentum as it will be a key to our success in the league.” Sporting have displayed some fine form in the recent matches and have fought back with spirit even when they were trailing.

When asked about his view on Vasco SC unit, he said “Vasco have a good side and their performances speak for themselves, we won’t take any match lightly as these are crucial points and we cannot afford to lose any.”  He further said “We are taking one match at a time; the match against Vasco is our top priority at the moment.”

When quizzed on his team’s preparation ahead of the match on Sunday, Mathew said “I am very pleased with how the boys have played in the recent times. A sizable chunk of goals we scored in the previous fixtures were similar to the ones we practice. This goes to show that the boys are successfully emulating what we plan in the training sessions and that is very important for us.”

Mean while the Vasco head coach Eban said that his team has had an undefeated streak for most part of the league and would be looking to continue the same on Sunday. He added “The team has been performing well; we haven’t lost a single match since the defeat against Dempo.” However the worrying factor for Eban’s unit has been the defense department which will lack the services of some key players as they face suspension due to the bookings picked up in previous matches. When asked about this Eban mentioned, “Yes it is definitely a concern for us, we would to some extent lack experience in our backline courtesy some silly referring errors. But we still have a fairly balanced squad and will be looking to put up a good fight against Sporting.”  Over all the match is building up pretty good and the fans will surely have a thrilling 90 minutes of football this Sunday.
