BHUBANESWAR: Sethu FC scored a convincing 3-0 victory over hosts Sports Odisha at the Capital Football Arena in Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in the Indian Women’s League.

Malavika P (19’) and Kaviya Pakkirisamy (27’) scored one each in the first half to put Sethu in the comfort zone, while Kajol D’Souza (66’) scored another after the hour mark to secure the win for the away side.

Sethu remain fifth in the IWL table, but more crucially, have drawn level with HOPS FC; both teams are on 13 points from 10 outings so far.

After an early passage of play when Sethu dominated proceedings, the side from Madurai took the lead through Malavika, who ran on to a brilliant through ball by Priyangka Devi, before scoring at the near post.

A little ahead of the half-hour mark Sports Odisha goalkeeper Spandita Das spilled a cross from the right, as Kaviya latched on to the loose ball and slotted it into an empty goal.

The tides did not change for Sports Odisha in the second half either, as Sethu dominated with their incessant attacks on goal. Six minutes after the hour mark, Malavika turned from scorer to provider, as she sent in a long cross to Kajol at the far post; the latter only had to tap it in, after Das failed to judge the flight of the ball.
