New Delhi, December 3, 2018: The zonal round of the Hero U-18 Youth League began earlier this October and with action taking place in 13 different zones across the country, four teams have secured their place in the final round and playoffs so far.
The two teams to have made it to the final round directly are Delhi Dynamos FC and Chennaiyin FC, who have secured top spot in their respective groups and move straight into the finals.
Both sides have remained unbeaten in their respective groups, with the Dynamos collecting 23 points in the nine games they have played so far after playing out a 2-2 draw against Sudeva FC on Monday. Chennaiyin, on the other hand, have won six out of their seven matches so far and have their last match remaining against Mahogany FC.
Rajat Guha, the head coach of the Dynamos U18 team, said, “The boys have done really well so far. We are part of a huge family at the club and the support we have received from every member has been immense. We have a few errors to iron out as we move into the next stages but we are confident that we will put on a great show.”
Two more teams also ensured their progress to the playoffs stage, which will precede the final round and will see a total of 10 sides take part, from where half shall progress.
From the Rest of India Group D, Kahaani Football Club from Ahmedabad will enter the playoffs stage after picking up seven points in three matches. In Group B, Aizawl FC topped their group – recording three wins in a row without conceding a single goal.
The Mizoram-based side’s assistant coach Nicky Malsawmtluanga said, “We are obviously delighted with the results. Last time around, we went out in the playoffs but on this occasion, we will leave no stone unturned in improving on that performance and going all the way to the final round.”
