NEW DELHI: North-East Indian and Mizoram outfit Chanmari FC take part in the Second Division League for the first time, as they look to get off the mark in the tournament this season with a win against Kenkre Sports on March 29, in their inaugural game.

The game will be held at the Kanchenjunga Krirangan in Siliguri.

Chanmari, the second team from Mizoram to participate in the tournament, along with Aizawl FC, have been continuously training since the start of the season i.e. July 2014. The team trains 4 hours every day except on Sunday.

Gym exercises are also done by the players under the guidance of the fitness trainer. The training is held usually in the morning from 7 am to 10 am at the ground, and technical classes are also held on a regular basis.

The team trains at the MSSC Ground and The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, both of which are situated in Aizawl.

The last official match played by the club was the Mizoram Premier League final against Aizawl FC on December 2014. It was a 2-legged final where Chanmari FC lost on penalties. Chanmari, though, were the winners of the MPL in the 2013-14 edition.

Gaurav Chatterjee, the Head Coach of the Club, says: “Chanmari FC are very thrilled and honored to participate in our maiden campaign of the 2nd Division I-League. We have a very good training ahead of the tournament, the fitness and techniques of the players are very good.

“We may not be the favorites to qualify for the I-League but we definitely have the potential and hunger to go the distance.”
