GOA: Salgaocar FC juniors put up a commanding performance to brush aside Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 in a Round 3 clash of the AIFF U-15 Youth League played at the SAG ground in Assolna. The winners lead 3-0 at the breather and courtesy this win have moved to the top of the 4-team league table with 7 points from 3 outings whilst Sporting Clube de Goa continue on third with 3 points.

The Greens started the brighter of the 2 sides and earned a couple of corners early on with Larryl Mascarenhas and Frazer Gomes controlling the midfield. At the other end Stendley Fernandes and David Cardoso were combining well for the Flaming Oranje. Salgaocar should nearly surged ahead at the stroke of the 15th minute. Larryl Mascarenhas making a fine run down the right and inch perfect cross Chaitan in the box who brings the ball under control but is intercepted before he can let fly.

Salgaocar did however break the deadlock in the 21st minute  through a beautifully worked team goal. Chaitan on the left sent Levy Pereira clear. The last name found Frazer Gomes on the edge of the box who let fly, his terrific left foot beating the outstretched arms of Akshat Hadkonkar, much to the delight of his team mates.

3 minutes later it was 2-0 in favour of the Greens as keeper Antonio Dylan D’Silva stepped up to take a free-kick around the centre line. His opposite number Akshat fisted the ball only as far as Levy who had a go with his left foot. Whilst Akshat did brilliantly do get down to get his hands to the ball Flan Gomes was lurking and easily tapped into an empty net. At that point Salgaocar were in total control of the game and kept attacking at will, with Sporting having the rare counter attack to keep the Salgaocar defense on their toes.

Tyson Silva who came on as a substitute for goal-scorer Flan with a few minutes to go to half-time was immediately in the thick of things and linked up well upfront with Frazer and Larryl. It was he who found the back of the net for  Salgaocar’s third in the 43rd minute as he hammered home from inside the box after some deft close-ball control by Larryl and a beautiful lay-off.

After the change of ends, Sporting came out with their intentions made clear. Stendley Fernandes in particular having an outstanding half, with the pacey Aman Govekar and Sahil Halarnkar causing the Salgaocar defense a few problems.

Sporting were rewarded with a goal in the 69th minute as Stendley played a delightful through ball to Aman who finished calmly from inside the box past an advancing Salgaocar custodian. Minutes later Stendley made another mazy run and dribbled past a few defenders but his effort was well-gathered by Antonio. The final chance of the game fell to the boys in Green as Larryl played substitute Aaron Barreto through on goal, the last named rounding the keeper but unable to beat the host of retreating defenders before the keeper recovered well to gather the ball. In the end the Greens ran out comfortable winners and thereby maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament.
