CHANDIGARH: Its going to be a new chapter in the history of Punjab’s Football as Minerva Academy Football Club is all set to bring back I-League (Second Division League) at the famous Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on Sunday, 29th of November when it host Lonestar Kashmir FC.

Minerva Academy FC, the only team from Punjab at the National Stage at this point, started its 2nd Division journey with a 2-0 away win against Kenkre FC on November 19. With 3 points in the kitty, the Surinder Singh (AFC A License) coached side is looking for another 3 pointers to topple the visitors in the teams standing.

Meanwhile Kashmir FC are coming into the match high on confidence after dumping 5 times National & I-League champions, Dempo SC 3-0 in Goa. Currently they are at the top of table with 4 points from 2 matches while Minerva are at 3 points from just one game.

Hence the match, touted as the “North Indian Derby”, will be an exciting contest of top level football at the Guru Nanak Stadium for the first time since JCT’s ouster in 2011.

“Minerva AFC have strived hard to bring back top level football for the football loving people of Punjab. But the hard work will not materialised till people come and cheer the players during the match,” said club director Mr. Ranjit Bajaj, while urging everyone to come to the stadium and support the home team.

He also added that, “ To revive football and to bring back people to the stadium, we have kept free entry for all the spectators and are working towards giving our fans a good in-stadium experience.”

Mr. Rahul Gupta PCS, Director of Sports, Punjab will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
