GUWAHATI: Mohun Bagan, who are crowned with the Hero Federation Cup in last weekend, are at the loggerheads with Tampines Rovers to cement a berth in the quarter-finals of the ongoing AFC Cup 2016. The Mariners are slated to face the powerhouse from Singapore in Guwahati tomorrow.

Mohun Bagan, who are still basking in the glory of winning their 14th Federation Cup, had to bite the dust against South China in their last match of the group stage of the AFC Cup. The Mariners have already gotten the better of Tampines Rovers once again in this season when they clashed in the AFC Champions League Premilinary Round 1 match in Kolkata.

Jermaine Pennant would instill more vigour in the Tampines Rovers camp while the hommies will miss the services of Sony Norde and Katsumi Yusa in both flanks. Moreover, Pritam Kotal will also go to miss tomorrow’s fixture, supposedly the last match of the 2015-16 season for the Hero Federation Cup winners.

“We’ve played them once but tomorrow is going to be a different ball game altogether”, Sanjoy Sen sounded grounded but optimistic in spite of going to throw his dice sans the two impeccable playmakers, “It’s going to be the last match of the season and we’ll obviously look forward to sign off holding our heads high.”

The AFC Cup Round of 16 match kicks off in Guwahati at 7 PM.
