GOA: Dempo Sports Club had a flying start to their U-15 I-League campaign when they overpowered  Sporting Clube de Goa 5-0 at Don Bosco Grounds, Panaji today.

This was the first match for both teams. But it was Dempo who started on a brighter note and soon  had their rivals on the back foot.  They deserving took the lead through Boris De melo who took on three defenders to put Dempo ahead.

After the conceding the first goal, Sporting came back strongly and played a patient game. They dominated the next 15 odd minutes with some great possession in the Dempo half. The best opportunity of Sporting came in the 30th minute when a right footed low shot from Stendly Fernandes went inches away from the nets. Post this both teams had an even game play and managed to keep the attack contained at either ends.

The second goal for Dempo came in the 40th minute when Boris De melo once again got the better of Sporting defence to send in a accurate cross for Baggio Fernandes who was never missing it from such a close range. This gave Dempo lads two goal advantage in the half time.

Crossing over the script was a repeat of the first half with Sporting muffing the chances which came their way and Dempo making the most of their chances.  Aaron Alvares made it 3-0 for Dempo in the 54th minute  with a first timer which flew over Sporting keeper Akshad who was  way off his line.  Five minutes later Akshad made the error of handling a backpass and off the resultant indirect kick Malcolm slotted into the far corner rounding the Sporting wall.   Aaron  then hammered the final nail with a left footer after dribbling past two defenders in the 63rd  minute.

The match was not as one sided as the scoreline suggests, but for the fact that Sporting strikers Aman Govekar,  Stendly Fernandes  and Denson Fernandes missed the umpteen chances that were created the story would have been different.
